Whether your motivation to be a donor is altruistic, financial or a combination of both, the process is somewhat arduous. Only 5 percent of all male applicants who apply to be a sperm donor meet the criteria to donate sperm. Immediate disqualifications include men who have a history of certain diseases in the family such as sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis; intravenous drug users; and men who have visited areas where considerable numbers of AIDS cases have been reported and have had sex there.

The fertility industry is regulated and closely scrutinized by the FDA and as such follows specific guidelines which SDI abides by. Assuming that you pass all the requirements to be a sperm donor, we will make you available to couples looking for a sperm donor.

From the time the couple decides to work with you, both parties (Donor and Recipient Couple) will enter into a contract disbursed by SDI to work together.

The first step is screening for certain infectious diseases which include but not limited to HIV, Hepatitas B, Hepatitas C, Syphilis, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhoea.  If the medical screening is good, your semen is analyzed for count, motility and morphology. Once the specimen is determined to be acceptable it is frozen typically for six months. After six months another round of FDA medical screening is done and if acceptable, your initial donation is retrieved for shipment to the Recipient Couple.

Donors are generally compensated $1,000-$2,000 for their participation upon completion of their donation- half at the time of storage and the balance within 72 hours of transfer to Recipient Couple. Once you are a proven donor your compensation increases.

Successful Donor candidates should have the following attributes:

• Between ages 19 and 39
  
• Good family health history (Self, Mother, Father, Siblings, etc.)
• Good BMI (Body Mass Index) click here to calculate
• No genetic/hereditary diseases that run in family- not suffering from any medical/clinical disorders (depression, anxiety, etc.)
• Nonsmoker
• Not adopted
• College educated (or in process)
• No piercing or tattoos within the last 12 months
• Willing to travel  (all expenses paid) if needed with advance notice
• Have a high level of responsibility and follow through

• Upon being selected, enter into contract
• Donor must take and pass a psychological evaluation (paid by Recipient Couple)
• Donor must undergo blood test for and pay for infectious diseases and a urine samples for STD’s and drug testing
• Must have high level of responsibility to meet the time requirements of the program
